That Was Then...

Unfortunately, since the site is tied to the concept of "top ten" that means that in order for cool new things to "make the list" some things must leave the list.

Not all things that are moved to the "That Was Then..." section are out-dated or less than awesome. Often, they just had to make way for the new content.

  • Code Rush and Refactor - A truly GREAT Visual Studio add-in that served me well for years. Currently eclipsed by ReSharper.

  • Debug Visualizers - Still very cool, but old news now. And VS2010 is so awesome you hardly need to download custom ones anymore.

  • Firefox Web Developer Toolbar - Still can't live without it. Awesome tool. But if I don't have new content no one will come to the talks...

  • Gimp - I suppose it is still great, but... I now work with a team of creatives and they can do in their sleep what would take me HOURS with any tool, including Gimp. People FTW!

  • MbUnit - Still awesome. I'm using NUnit lately because I got into CI and it was just easier at first. Considering going back to MbUnit...

  • NDepend - Completely awesome, but too hard to integrate into my CI process, so mostly forgotten. A shame...

  • SVN - This is really great, until you realize you could have Mercurial instead.

  • XPathMania - I get other people to do my XPath stuff these days :) And I think this project is dead anyway. It was nice when I needed it though!
